THE STORY BEHIND THE RIDER.

Everyone at Buen Hombre just calls him Davisito. His full name is Angel David Bonilla, and at 22 years old, he's one of the top kitesurfers to come out of the Dominican Republic's north coast — but his story didn't start on the water.

As a baby, Davisito survived a severe burn accident. What followed was years of treatment and more than 45 surgeries — a childhood spent in recovery rather than on a playground. Kitesurfing changed that. At Buen Hombre, in the flat water and steady trade winds of Monte Cristi, he found something his recovery hadn't given him: a place to move, to push, and to simply fly.

In 2026, that work paid off on an international stage: Davisito took the Rey del Aire title at Salinas Fest in Colombia, cementing his place as one of the region's top Big Air riders.

He still trains and rides out of Buen Hombre.
