Our Story
Built by Wind. Refined by Time.
In 2013, when most travelers had never heard of Buen Hombre,
we stood on an empty stretch of shallow turquoise water and knew one thing:
This was rare.
No crowds. No beach vendors. No signal. No internet.
Just steady Caribbean trade winds and a quiet fishing village on the northwestern edge of the Dominican Republic —
one of the last untouched coastlines in the Caribbean.
Where others saw isolation,
we saw purity.
And we chose to build something worthy of it.
Two Founders. One Standard.
Riin envisioned more than a kite school. She envisioned a destination where every detail — from airport pickup to your first independent ride — feels intentional, seamless, and personal.
The kind of experience that requires years of systems, relationships, and genuine care to build.
She built it anyway.
Behind the scenes, Riin designed everything that makes the experience feel effortless for guests — the booking systems, the multilingual communication, the accommodations, the digital infrastructure, and the operational standards that have kept Kite Buen Hombre running without interruption for over 12 years. Fluent in 8 languages, she has personally welcomed and guided students from dozens of countries, making sure no one ever feels lost — on or off the water.
Miky brought mastery on the water. A Dominican Strapless Champion known for precision and flow — but defined by patience. Teaching without ego.
Guiding without pressure. His ability to read a student's fear and dissolve it is, frankly, rare.
Together, they created Kite Buen Hombre.
Not built for volume.
Built for standards.
Season after season.
Wind after wind.
Building Excellence Where Nothing Existed
In the early days, we ran an international kite school without a reliable phone signal or electricity. Students booked through inconsistent connections. Weather checks were manual. Schedules were handwritten.
As our guests began arriving from Europe, North America, and beyond, we made a decision:
Remote should never mean disconnected.
We invested in one of the first Starlink systems in the Dominican Republic —
ordered nearly two years before it became widely available in the country. Not as a novelty.
As a commitment to reliability.
For us, luxury means peace of mind.
What Shaped Us (The Part Most Schools Don’t Talk About)
Building in a remote village is not glamorous.
There have been years of unstable electricity.
Years of explaining to people where Buen Hombre even is.
Years of proving that a shallow lagoon without crowds is actually a luxury.
And yes — there were wanna be's.
At one point, competitors appeared, names were imitated, and ideas were copied.
Instead, we focused on what cannot be copied:
Experience. Care. Integrity. Results.
Reputation isn’t built by branding.
It’s built by students who stand up on the board for the first time and scream with joy.
That’s something no one can copy.
Two Worlds. One Experience.
From the beginning, our vision always included both:
Buen Hombre — serene, spacious, almost meditative.
A shallow lagoon where beginners progress faster than they expect, and experienced riders rediscover freedom.
Cabarete — vibrant, international, alive with ocean energy and the rhythm of a town built around the sport.
Stillness and movement.
Silence and rhythm.
Two distinct atmospheres,
curated under one uncompromising standard of instruction and care.
We are also proud to operate the only tourism-licensed boat in Buen Hombre, with fully certified captains licensed by the Ministry of Tourism. Whether you're completing your graduation downwinder or exploring the seven islands, you ride with the only legally operating boat service in the area.
The Boy From The Village Who Became A Champion
Perhaps nothing tells the story of Kite Buen Hombre better than Davisito.
Angel David Bonilla — known to everyone as Davisito — grew up in Cabarete. He was one of the local boys who watched us set up on the beach in the early days, curious about the kites. He fell in love with the sport. And then he flew.
Today, Davisito is the Dominican Republic Big Air Champion and an official Ventum Pro Team Rider — one of the most respected kite brands in the world. He trains and teaches right here, at the school Kite Buen Hombre.
That is not a marketing story. That is 12 years of genuine investment in a community.
No school can fabricate that kind of history. You either lived it or you didn't.
The Equipment We Chose — And Why
From day one, we made a deliberate decision about gear: only premium brands. Core, Duotone, Crazyfly, Ventum, and Ion.
Not because it's the cheapest option — it isn't. But because the kite a student learns on directly affects how fast they progress, how safe they are, and how the sport feels to them. Poorly made gear teaches bad habits and breaks at the wrong moment.
These aren't brands we discovered recently. We have worked alongside Core, Duotone, Crazyfly, Ventum, and Ion for over 10 years — long enough to know how each kite behaves in different conditions, how the equipment holds up season after season, and which gear suits which student. That depth of brand knowledge feeds directly into how we teach and what we recommend.
Our students deserve equipment that performs as well as our instruction. That standard has never changed.
Strengthened by Those Who Came
The most meaningful evolution of Kite Buen Hombre did not come from expansion plans.
It came from listening.
From conversations after sunset sessions. From beginners who arrived nervous and left transformed.
From returning guests who trusted us with their partners, their children, and their friends.
Many refinements in our teaching systems, accommodations, and guest experience were shaped by the people
who chose to spend their time here.
The community didn't just support us. It refined us.

But the number we value most?
Return guests.
Some stayed for a week.
Some extended for a month.
Some now bring their families back every year.
That’s the real metric.
Not Instagram followers.
Not marketing hype.
Return students.
Reputation carried by real experience travels further than any marketing ever could.

RIIN
The CREATIVE KITESURFER, Co-Founder
⚙️ 13+ years building Kite Buen Hombre from the ground up
🌍 Fluent in 8 languages
Riin is the architect behind the experience. From the moment you first reach out to the moment you take your final ride, everything that feels seamless was designed by her. She built the systems, the standards, the accommodations, and the culture that defines Kite Buen Hombre — in a remote village, without infrastructure, from nothing.
On the water, she rides strapless and brings the same creative precision to teaching that she brings to everything else.
"I want every person who comes here to leave having experienced something they didn't know they needed. That's what Buen Hombre does to people — it surprises you."
