Built for kite travelers. Traveling with kite gear in the Dominican Republic is complicated on public transport. Our service is designed specifically for kitesurfers with gear bags, families, groups, solo travelers arriving for camps, and anyone combining Cabarete and Buen Hombre.

STEP 1 — CHOOSE YOUR AIRPORT

Airport Transfers Available from All Major DR Airports

Four international airports serve the north coast of the Dominican Republic.

Here's how each one compares for your trip to Buen Hombre or Cabarete.

★ MOST CONVENIENT

Perfect for: kite camps · families · short stays · first-time visitors

POP

Puerto Plata —
Gregorio Luperón Airport

  • → Buen Hombre~.         3 hours

  • → Cabarete~                 25 min

  • The second closest international airport — best option for most guests.

  • Easy direct highway route.

★ FASTEST TRANSFER

STI

Santiago —
Cibao International Airport

  • → Buen Hombre~          2–2.5 hours

  • → Cabarete~.                 1.5 hours

  • Shortest transfer time to Buen Hombre. Often cheaper flights. Great balance of price, time, and comfort.

Perfect for: kite camps · families · short stays · first-time visitors

SDQ

Santo Domingo —
Las Américas Airport

  • → Buen Hombre~4 hours

  • → Cabarete~4 hours

  • Largest selection of international flights. Longer drive, but ideal for extended DR trips or combining a capital city visit.

Popular for: multi-destination travelers · digital nomads · Caribbean island-hoppers

Pro tip: Visiting both locations? Fly into Santiago (STI) —

the fastest transfer to Buen Hombre and still only 1.5 hours to Cabarete. Often the best flight prices too.

Punta Cana International Airport

  • → Buen Hombre~5–6 hours

  • → Cabarete~5 hours

  • Longest transfer — still very doable. Many guests combine a Punta Cana resort stay with a kitesurfing trip to Buen Hombre and Cabarete.

SELF-DRIVE GUIDE

Driving to Buen Hombre — What You Need to Know

📍 Address: Playa Buen Hombre, VH9W+W8, Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic

GPS: 19.9633° N, 71.3858° W

~3 hrs           FROM POP

~2–2.5 hrs     FROM STI

~4 hrs            FROM SDQ

~5–6 hrs        FROM PUJ

The highways are good and the route is safe. From Santiago, take the highway northwest toward Monte Cristi. From Puerto Plata take the coastal highway west. Both routes converge at Villa Vásquez, where you turn toward the coast. The final stretch to Buen Hombre is on rural roads — unpaved but perfectly manageable in dry season.

Key Landmarks on the Route

⛽Villa Vásquez —

Junction town, turn west here. Fill up — this is the last reliable gas

station before Buen Hombre. Good ATM stop too.

                                               🐠Estero Hondo Marine Sanctuary —

Manatee reserve along the route. Worth stopping on your return —

one of the only places in the Caribbean to see West Indian manatees.

🏖️Punta Rucia —

Stunning beach with restaurants, ~15 km before Buen Hombre.

Great rest stop. Also the departure point for Cayo Arena boat trips.

🏝️Cayo Arena / Paradise Island —

The famous white sandbar island visible from the coast.

One of our most popular day-trip destinations from Buen Hombre.

🏙️Monte Cristi Town —

Provincial capital, ~45 min before Buen Hombre.

Stock up on supplies here — grocery stores, pharmacies, hardware.

Essential Driving Tips

⛽Fuel at Villa Vásquez. Last reliable station on the route. Don't skip it.

💵Bring cash.

Withdraw in Santiago, Monte Cristi, or at the airport. ATMs are limited in Buen Hombre.

📱Download offline maps (Google Maps or Maps.me)

before you leave — cell signal can drop on rural roads.

🌅Drive in daylight. The rural sections are easy in daylight

and harder in the dark. Plan your arrival accordingly.

🚙4x4 recommended — especially the last 15 km and during the rainy season

(May–November). Regular cars manage fine in dry conditions.

🛒Stock up before Buen Hombre. Small local shops in the village —

major shopping in Santiago or Monte Cristi.

🤝Ask locals for directions.

Dominicans are incredibly warm and helpful — never hesitate to ask.

Safety & self-drive

Driving to Buen Hombre is safe. Main highways are well-maintained. The final section is on rural roads. Key tips: fill up at Villa Vásquez (last gas station before Buen Hombre), drive during daylight, download offline maps, bring cash. A 4x4 is recommended but not required in dry season.
