HOW MANY DAYS DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN KITESURFING?
Most beginners ride after about 11 hours of private lessons, usually 3 to 4 days. Riding on your own takes about 21 hours, with the Second Level course.
We recommend booking 5–7 days, so you have buffer for wind, rest and extra time on the water — that is how the hours turn into real, independent riding.
Flat, shallow water makes the difference: in Buen Hombre's lagoon you stand in knee-deep water, reset and try again, instead of fighting waves and shore break. More of every lesson is spent actually practising.

WHAT IS THE BEST KITE SCHOOL IN CABARETE?
Kite Buen Hombre teaches in Cabarete too — with the same team that runs our flat-water lagoon school in Buen Hombre.
In Cabarete we keep our gear at the Cabarete Boutique Kite Hotel and teach at whichever beach is best that day. The sand moves through the year, so we go where the conditions are right instead of working from one fixed spot.
What to look for in any Cabarete kite school: private one-to-one lessons, radio-helmet coaching, a rescue boat, experienced instructors — and honest advice. If you are a complete beginner, a flat-water lagoon will usually get you riding faster than the waves.
Our coaches include Dominican Republic national champions, so intermediate and advanced riders train with people who compete at the top level.
WHERE CAN A BEGINNER LEARN TO KITESURF IN THE CARIBBEAN?
The Caribbean's best beginner spots combine steady trade winds with flat, shallow water.
Playa Buen Hombre, on the northwest coast of the Dominican Republic, has exactly that: a protected, waist-deep lagoon with no waves and no current, wind typically 15–25 knots — stronger than nearby Cabarete — and very few other kiters.
It is also easy to reach, with flights to Puerto Plata (POP) and Santiago (STI) from the USA, Canada and Europe. We arrange the airport transfer: Santiago $150 one way, Puerto Plata $220 one way, per car for up to 4 people.
Staying in Punta Cana? The east coast has little consistent kite wind — the Dominican Republic's kitesurfing happens on the north coast.
