Most sun protection stops at your shoulders. This doesn't — pull the hood up and your neck, ears and the back of your head are covered too, which is exactly where people get burned without noticing until that evening.

SPF 50 across the whole garment. Long sleeves. Lightweight enough to wear on the water without overheating, and it dries fast enough that you're not sitting in a wet hoodie afterwards.

Our instructors wear these all day, every day — hood up through the middle of the day, hood down for the boat ride back. When the people who are out there 300 days a year all choose the same piece of kit, that tells you something.
