Cabarete is one of the great kite towns of the world. But if you are staying there, you have probably heard about the lagoon three hours west, where the water is flat, the wind is stronger and there is almost nobody on it. The Kite Buen Hombre Express is the easy way to find out for yourself.

How the Weekend Works

  • Friday: the van leaves Cabarete in the morning and arrives in Buen Hombre in the early afternoon, in time for the wind. Kite until sunset, then dinner at the camp.

  • Saturday: the big day. A downwinder or boat trip to Cayo Arena (about 14 km) or Playa Popa (about 17 km), then more kiting on the lagoon and a beach night with the crew.

  • Sunday: a last session on the flat water, then the van back to Cabarete in the evening.

Departures restart with the new season. Message us for this season's dates and to hold a seat.

What's Included

  • Round-trip transport from Cabarete

  • Two nights at our camp, right on the kite beach

  • Meals, cooked fresh on site, and bottled drinking water

  • A boat trip or downwinder to Cayo Arena or Playa Popa

  • A beach night with the crew

Lessons, coaching and rental gear can be added. If you are learning, Buen Hombre's knee-deep lagoon is the best place on this coast to do it.

Why Make the Trip

  • More wind. Our own weather station shows Buen Hombre gets kiteable wind on far more days than Cabarete. See the live wind page.

  • Flat water. A big, shallow, sheltered bay. A completely different kind of riding from Cabarete's ocean.

  • Long sessions. The wind builds through the afternoon and is often strongest late in the day. In summer you can kite until around 9 pm, and on full-moon nights the wind sometimes keeps going after dark.

  • Islands and empty beaches. Cayo Arena, Playa Popa and the Siete Hermanos cays are on our doorstep.
