Why Kite Brands Come to Film in Buen Hombre: Ventum, Crazyfly and Our Lagoon
Look closely at some of the kite videos of the last few years and you might recognise the water. Shallow, flat, turquoise, with nobody else in the shot. That is the lagoon at Playa Buen Hombre, and more than one kite brand has chosen it as a backdrop.
What Makes a Good Place to Film Kitesurfing
Flat, clear water. Turquoise water over a sandy bottom looks good on camera and lets riders land tricks cleanly.
Steady wind. A shoot needs the same conditions take after take. Buen Hombre averages around 15 knots, and the afternoon wind builds reliably.
No crowds. No other kites crossing the frame, no boats, no beach bars in the background.
Variety close by. Flat water in the lagoon, a wave spot for kiting right next door, mangroves, and islands like Cayo Arena a short boat ride away.
Ventum Kiteboarding, March 2024
Our friendship with Sebastiaan, the founder of Ventum Kiteboarding, goes back more than ten years. We have ridden and taught on Ventum since the brand began, and we have given feedback on the kites along the way.
In March 2024 the Ventum team spent several weeks with us filming new product videos and photos: team riders Richard, Jesse, Wauter and Maarten from the Netherlands, our own Davisito and Miky, and videographer Edwin Haighton. They shot on the lagoon, at Cayo Arena and in the mangroves.
One of the results was the launch video for the Ventum REEF, a wave kite, with Miky riding strapless alongside Jesse:

Crazyfly, 2020 Video
In 2019 the Crazyfly team came to film their 2020 video in Buen Hombre, with Dominican champion Posito Martínez and Liloo Fourré riding our lagoon. It was a pleasure to host them, and to see riders of that level on our humble beach.
